In Cape Town, when the blue sky above stretches endlessly without interruption save for the bright, shining sun, the lush green fields and vineyards of Constantia are revealed in all their glory. Whatever the weather, it is easy to see why this suburb is so highly regarded and protected by the residents. A place so beautiful deserves such attention.
Constantia Valley stretches from the Wynberg hill in the north past the Tokai Forest to the Silvermine mountains in the south. Bordering the valley to the west and extending across kilometres of green wonderland until finally meeting the Atlantic Ocean, is Table Mountain National Park.
Birthplace of South Africa’s wine farming industry, the Constantia Wine Route is a ‘proudly Cape Town’ attraction and includes the cellars of one of the country’s foremost historical monuments Groot Constantia (the Cape Dutch architecture dates back to 1685), Buitenverwachting, Uitsig and Steenberg and Simon van der Stell’s original farm, Klein Constantia.
The nature lover will feel right at home in Contsantia, where numerous walks and hikes take place in stunning settings. The Alphen trail near the Alphen Hotel is a popular choice, as is the Sillery walk along the Spaanschemacht River. Mountain bikers will enjoy the popular Tokai Forest. Other nearby attractions include the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and the False Bay beaches.
If spending full days in nature isn’t quite your thing, numerous shopping centres can provide you with a daily intake of clothes and cappuccinos.
