Many a Saturday afternoon in Newlands has seen throngs of crowds dressed in their favourite team colours, marching towards the Newlands Rugby Stadium or Cricket Ground, the atmosphere tingling with energy as supporters chat animatedly amongst themselves about the game ahead while teasing the opposition (sometimes with much passion) that ‘their team’ has no chance. These sports grounds, which have attracted top teams from all parts of the world, is what makes Newlands famous, but it’s not all this suburb can brag about.
Tree-lined streets and an abundance of nature makes Newlands a popular area with dog owners, nature lovers, walkers and runners. The Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and Newlands Forest provide excellent viewing points, whether one wishes to gaze at Table Mountain, Devil’s Peak or simply the surrounding beauty.
