Tokai

Information

Baboons foraging in Tokai forest
Abseiler at Elephant's Eye cave

Tokai enjoys a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere and beautiful natural surroundings. Bordering the suburb is its namesake, the Tokai Forest, which was originally planted by Simon van der Stel in 1694 and now offers many wonderful walks and hikes. The forest is also very popular with cyclists. The Tokai Arboretum on the slopes of Constantiaberg, has hundreds of species on show and tea here, surrounded by the distinctive smell of nature, is a very enjoyable way to enjoy Tokai’s nature.

Once a farm, the initial homestead still stands and is a beautiful example of Cape Dutch architecture. Set comfortably between Cape Town’s city centre to the north and Cape Point to the south, Tokai enjoys close proximity to the Constantia Wine Route and Silvermine Nature Reserve, offering residents a variety of day trip options.
